Sermon By: Pastor Emmanuel Olowokere
Sermon Date: January 15, 2012
Synopsis
Last week we saw that one’s position influences everything about one’s life. If one is wrongly positioned, one’s life tends to wrongly unfold. The reverse is equally true. We then tied this to the prophecy for 2012: “My Year of the New”. We saw that the New will not manifest automatically just because the calendar read “2012”. But that the position of “be in Christ” is the best way to guarantee the New will materialize since 2 Corinthians 5:17 states “17Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
We move forward this week by expanding on being in Christ and being positioned in the Word.
There’s no sitting on the fence when it comes to being God’s. One is either in or out of Christ.
This is an important foundation every Believer must understand. One’s position in Christ is all
one needs to become. John 1: 11-12 submits:
He came unto his own, and his own received him not. 12But as many as received him, to them
gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
The Son (child) of who you are determines how life treats you. The Prodigal Son must have realized this
when he decided to head back home to his father rather than continue to wallow in penury and misery.
You would have also realized this if you stopped to consider Sasha and Malia’s celebrity. Before their
father became the president, hardly any photographer went after them; but now, it’s almost impossible
for them to go out and not be photographed!
The benefit of being God’s child is profound: no height or stature transcends you. You can aspire to any
heights conceivable! Even Satan recognizes this. In Matthew 4 and Luke 4, we encounter him ask Jesus
to do the incredible. There’s a certain boldness that comes with being a true child of God. Indeed the
highest qualification you could ever have isn’t your resume or professional accomplishment but being a
child of God. You know your Father owns all things and can do all things and you carry yourself as such.
For instance, my children, unlike others, exercise little regard when they ride in my car; they open the
door at will and sit without restraint. It’s their father’s car after all! That’s what God expects of His true
children in relation to living in this world. Just as life listens to God you must know that life will do your
bidding.
Another position from which you must approach life is from the Word of God. John 1: 1-3 states:
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2The same
was in the beginning with God. 3All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing
made that was made.
The Word as the “Maker” of the world can guarantee anything you want to become. The Word (Jesus)
turned Simon Peter from a fisherman to a fisher of men. The Word also told Simon to launch into the
same lake where he had “toiled all night and caught nothing” and because he heeded he had a net-
breaking catch (Luke 5). You must know that your professional qualification would only carry you so far.
Your only guarantee of unfailing success is to be positioned in the Word. Whatever your situation, find
the word of God that meets your situation and you’ll be guaranteed victory.
