Sermon Synopsis
In continuing the series “The Mandate for Kingdom Service” we’ll look at another salient point: Serving God makes Him remember you for good.
Serving God implies making God the priority. It means making everything and everyone else matter less whenever His service calls. Children or spouse couldn’t stand in the way; neither could career; success couldn’t impede your service, or failure. Absolutely nothing else could come before service to Him.
That’s why Matthew 6:33a submits “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness;”
The super great thing about making God the priority or seeking first His kingdom is contained in Mathew 6:33b “and all these things shall be added unto you.”
That is, serving God makes Him remember you for good. And you know what happens when God remembers anyone. When Hannah was remembered, a supposedly barren became a mother of five (1 Samuel 1&2); Joseph was remembered and inexplicable promotion followed (Genesis 41); and Jabez became more honorable than his brethren after God remembered him (1 Chronicles 4:9).
Hebrews 6:10 reinforces “For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.” This passage should be comforting if you’re dedicated to His service because it underscores God’s important characteristic: He remembers and rewards labor done Him.
Luke 1:5-13 exemplifies how true Hebrew 6:10 could be:
There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth. And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.
And they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were now well stricken in years. And it came to pass, that while he executed the priest’s office before God in the order of his course, According to the custom of the priest’s office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord.
And the whole multitude of the people were praying without at the time of incense. And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense.
And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.
But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.
Zacharias and Elisabeth, though servants of God were barren. That didn’t foreclose their service to God. They kept at it in spite of their challenge displaying that theirs is indeed a labor of love. Unexpectedly God shows up, remembers, and rewards them with their long-sought-for blessing: a child. God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labor of love!
God’s intervention in Zacharias’ and Elisabeth’s case reminds me of one of my daughters who came to me not too long ago with a foreclosure letter on her home. This same home was a center for our House Fellowship. The date for Sheriff’s sale had been set but suddenly God intervened. The bank wrote her back and cut her a better deal than she had. God never forgets you work and labor of love!
Please make up your mind to serve Him if you currently don’t. And don’t stop serving Him, if you do already. He will always remember you for good. May God bless you as you serve Him more and more in Jesus name.
Have a blessed week in His service!
