Sermon Synopsis

God has told us what the fifth month of the year will be for us at Strong Tower Parish. He says it’s our month of Double Honor. The importance of this prophecy may be undermined unless one understands the key element of this word. We next define “Honor”.

Honor means a state of being in great reputation or notability, or for a man to ascend to a new level of admiration. It also means holding or having a respectable position in society. For instance, Pastor Enoch Adeboye is an honorable man of God, President Obama holds an honorable position, and so does Michael Jordan in basketball.

Finally, let’s look at some dimensions of honor.

Natural honor: This is our natural dignity. Its God given to every human whether saved or not. Psalm 8:3-5 says:

When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; what is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.

Covenant honor: is associative in nature. Comes from link to another who carries the original honor. For instance, the First Lady is honored because her husband is the president. In Genesis 49: 4-6, Jacob severs Simeon and Levi from his honor. Consider also Deuteronomy 25:16-19 and John 5:22-23.

Marital Honor: Comes from being married because the institution is honorable. Hebrews 13:4 says “Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.”

Kingdom Service Honor: Comes from giving ourselves to God’s service. John 12: 26 says “If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour” and 1Timothy 5:17 says “Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.

Honor of God: This is given by God to whomever He desires. It’s the honor that never fades. John 8:54 reads “Jesus answered, if I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:” and in John 5: 41-44 Jesus again references His source of honor:

I receive not honour from men. But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you. I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive. How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?

May God grant you a week of Double Honor in the name of Jesus Christ.
