Sermon synopsis
You have been told through prophecy that 2010 is “My Glorious Year.” That means you believe, or have come to the realization that the days ahead of you are glorious days. This gives you an edge over those clueless of what Year 2010 portends.

Your situation is similar to that of a woman who becomes pregnant and as a result becomes expectant of a baby. She expects to have her baby by the due date.

Jeremiah. 29:11 says: “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” What He gives you is what you are expecting. Every man is a product of his expectation. If you expect failure, that’s what you get. You get success if that’s what you expect.

For instance, I was flying back from a minister’s conference recently,  and was late for my flight. The other pastors that I was supposed to travel with were already seated on the plane, and they kept asking if I was still going to make the flight. And my response was in the affirmative. Afterward, the plane started taxing;  and you know that meant a missed flight. But lo and behold, the pilot suddenly announced he was pulling back to have the plane checked due to some mechanical concerns. Once the plane pulled back, the attendant announced my name and I was allowed to board. On getting in, the pilot announced the supposed mechanical fault was nothing actually and we traveled.

Expectation is crucial.

Sometimes failure or condition makes one want to set low expectations. That shouldn’t be because what you have lost you have lost, and need to move on. Your expectation is your weapon to fight for your future.

However, expectation by itself is inadequate to establish the prophecy in your life. There are steps to be taken to have a manifestation of your expectation. We call them “responsibilities”. These will ensure your expectation doesn’t amount to daydreaming but reality.

For instance, as a tongue-talking, heaven-bound, demon-chasing student, of course Christ in you is the hope of glory, but if you’re not studious, and yet expect to be the head and not the tail, you’ve got jokes. If there’s any place lower than the tail, that’s where you might end up! God will only do His part; it’s your responsibility to pull your own weight.

Why did you think the Apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians. 3:6 that “I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase”?

If nothing was planted let alone watered what would God have increased? Saints, expectation never becomes reality without corresponding work.

What then do you need to do to manifest your expectation in 2010? Let’s turn to Isaiah 4:1-2, our anchor Scripture for the 2010 prophecy, for clue:

And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach. In that day shall the branch of the LORD be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and comely for them that are escaped of Israel.

Note first that it’s the branch and not the root or the leaves that are going to be made glorious. Add to that these facts:

  • A branch doesn’t have it own identity. It takes up that of the tree it’s on.
  • The source of the branch is the tree.
  • The branch only keeps its relevance as long as it is embedded in the tree.
  • The health of the tree determines the health of the branch.

John 15: 1-4 helps shed light on the connection between a branch and a tree. Jesus said:

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.”

Essentially your first responsibility as a Branch in Year 2010 is to abide in Him, the Tree.

You must remain a Branch that is fully embedded in the Tree so you can get all that the Tree has to offer.

I pray that God will grant you the grace to remain committed, connected, rooted and abounding in Him. And may God remove from your life whatever will take you away from Him in the name of Jesus.

God bless you. Welcome to your glorious year!
